In this post I will discuss latest advancements in Internet of Things (IoT). Particularly, in recent years many interesting innovations occurred in the field of IoT. Internet of Things (IoT) represents a concept that we realize by connecting devices to the Internet. Actually, in India itself there is lots of development in IoT in recent years. Additionally, the last 5 years, have seen filing of a record 5000 patents in the field of IoT. Not only that, 40% of these patents have been granted. In India, large section of people believe that IoT will simplify their life. Undoubtedly, the IoT market will grow in coming years.

Coronavirus Pandemic Impacts Development in IoT

In fact, with Covid-19 pandemic people are looking for more connected things. Thus, there is emergence of new use cases of IoT. For instance, retailers and restaurants now need automated trolleys. Also, there is increase in demand of wearable devices which can measure body temperature or blood oxygen level. In addition, there is continuous need of automatic disinfactants and cleanliness services that can be monitored remotely.

With the emergence of IoT, now it is possible to transform any physical thing into an IoT device.  These connected things create a network of things or Internet of Things. Also IoT comprises of physical objects other than smart phones, laptops or PC, which are meant to connect through Internet.

IoT and Related Areas

The connected things usually have some kind of sensor nodes with one or more systems and a Microcontroller Unit (MCU) which drive these sensors. While, the sensors collect and store data from environment, the MCU may upload this data to a web server or cloud storage. Further, we can analyze this data later or in real-time so that the things can receive some message for controlling themInternet of Things (IoT) represents a concept that we realize by connecting devices to the Internet. With the emergence of IoT, now it is possible to transform any physical thing into an IoT device.

The development in IoT is strengthened by the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. With the advancements in AI and machine learning techniques IoT development is going on with astonishing speed with new innovations. IoT has potential of collecting large volume of data quickly. As a result, the development of new techniques in storage and analytics also took place. IoT has leveraged the advancements in cloud and edge computing and data analytics and prediction methods.

Application Domains

The latest advancements in Internet of Things (Iot) have impact on a wide range of activities and developments. These advancements and innovations are beneficial to the service sector, homes, factories and hospitals to name few.

Internet of Things has been adopted in nearly all fields. There are applications which become part of the daily life. These innovations are emerging in a wide range of applications. Now, II list the broad area of applications in IoT.
